Scots-American War Memorial, Edinburgh - A Featured Memorial

Why pick this memorial as our next featured memorial, it’s so well known why point it out in the blog? It is well known but have you ever taken the time to look behind the seated statue at the frieze. It’s a marvellous piece of sculpture which captures the spirit of August and September 1914 in Scotland.

The theme isn’t unique, and in fact the memorial to the City of Newcastle battalions of Northumberland Fusiliers in Newcastle-upon-Tyne called “The Response” is quite similar.

It is well worth a closer look at the Scots-American War Memorial the next time you are in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. Until then you can check it out online on the Scottish War Memorials Project
